Day 1: Riverston Peak to Remote Etanwala

  • Focus: High-Altitude Views and Deep Knuckles Trekking.
  • Trek: Ascent of Riverston Peak followed by the challenging Sudu Gala Trail across ridges and through cloud forests.
  • Overnight: Etanwala Village. Authentic overnight stay with a local family in a secluded valley setting.

Day 2: The Hidden Village of Walpolamulla

  • Focus: Cultural Immersion and Exploring Abandoned Trails.
  • Trek: Continue trekking from Etanwala through lush paddy fields and forests to the secluded Walpolamulla Village.
  • Overnight: Walpolamulla Village Home. A rare and immersive cultural experience with local residents.

Day 3: Manigala Summit & Illukkumbura Base

  • Focus: Tabletop Mountain Summit and Panoramic Vistas.
  • Trek: Challenging ascent to the flat summit of Manigala Mountain for rewarding 360-degree views of the Knuckles Range.
  • Afternoon: Descend Manigala and trek toward Illukkumbura.
  • Overnight: Illukkumbura. Stay in a guesthouse or lodge, marking the end of the most strenuous wilderness section.

Day 4: Mini World's End & Pathane Ella Trek

  • Focus: Iconic Cliff Views and Discovering Hidden Waterfalls.
  • Morning: Transfer to Pitawala Pathana. Walk across the unique montane grassland to the dramatic Mini World's End cliff drop. Enjoy the contrast between the flat plain and the sheer precipice.
  • Trek: Begin the guided trek to Pathane Ella (Pitawala Pathana Ella). This is a less-visited, rewarding route that requires a local guide, as it often involves trekking through jungle and near the location of the old Pathana Gama (village) which was part of the Red Bana cardamom project.
  • Evening: Overnight Stay at Red Bana Village. This village or a nearby specialized accommodation named "Redbana Village" (likely connected to the historical Red Bana Cardamom company settlement) offers a rustic and deeply local stay in the area, perfectly positioned for your final day.

Day 5: Sera Ella Waterfall & Return to Kandy

  • Focus: Waterfall Exploration and Scenic Drive to Kandy.
  • Morning: Visit the spectacular Sera Ella Waterfall. Take the steps down to the base and, conditions permitting, walk into the shallow cave behind the curtain of water. This is an iconic and beautiful spot to conclude your natural exploration.
  • Mid-day: Begin your return journey. Take a scenic drive back through the highlands, passing through Matale and into Kandy, with lunch en-route.
  • Afternoon/Evening: Departure from Kandy. Transfer to your hotel, train station, or onward travel point.
